Day 4 for the Fall-O-Ween Blog Hop! I hope you're enjoying all the posts and free projects. Did I mention that Pat Sloan has set up a Flickr group page for you to post photos of your finished projects?
You can find it here.
It's amazing how fast you guys are in getting these projects completed!
So, today's topic is TEXTURE. (ok, for some reason, I suddenly feel like I am back in elementary school where we had to write something about a specific topic each day....)
When I think of fall, the most obvious texture that comes to mind is the dried grass and leaves.
Yes, this is our yard, and it seems to take FOREVER to rake all those leaves. But I love to go walking through them, listening to them crunch and swoosh around.
There is a pumpkin patch nearby that we used to go to when the kids were little. It was fun to go "crunching" through the fields searching for that perfect pumpkin to carve.
You know, that perfect pumpkin that was just the right size, that would stand upright and not list to one side, that still had a good stem on it to serve as the "handle" for the lid. And when we found it, we would bring it home and experience another texture that I associate only with the fall....
Pumpkin guts! Eeeoowwww! It was always Tom's job to clean the pumpkin out, because I didn't like doing that part. The thing I liked doing was the carving...
I don't know if you can see it, but there is some kind of ghostly ghoul carved into that pumpkin. I don't carve pumpkins like that any more, but it's fun to look back at the photos we took of them.
And tomorrow, we get to talk about clothes, which is another type of texture. (It's funny how so many of these topics overlap each other.) So, for today, you need to check out Kari's blog at New Leaf Stitches, to get your free project.
And leave her a comment so that she knows you were there and you can be in the drawing for the grand prize. I think that my day for the free project is drawing near, so I'd better get to work and figure out what I'm going to make. I'll be back tomorrow!!

Now, that's a ton of leaves in your yard!! I have never been out to a pumpkin patch to select my own pumpkin, but I'll bet it's fun!!

I wouldn't want to have to rake all those leaves! You did a great job on the pumpkin carving!

Wow great pictures! Such fun!

Dad used to carve our pumpkins as well. Mom used to pile newspaper under the pumpkin where Dad put the GUTS. OOH, I thought it was so cool to dig through the guts..I must be wierd...LOL
I counted a dozen pumpkins in our small pumpkin patch for the grandkids to pick anyday now. Simple pleasures as we get older.

Pumpkin guts! Eeeoowwww! When my boys were small......and that's a long time ago....... cleaning out the pumpkins and the carving was my husband's job. Not a fan of pumpkins guts.
You do have a ton of leaves.
Luving the blog hop.

Oh those leaves make me smile. If I had that many leaves then I know my garden would have the grandest soil. We mostly have pine trees so I have to go around asking to rake other peoples leaves.

Somehow, when my husband carved pumpkins with our daughters, they never looked as good as yours! Really enjoying this hop...

Brings back so many memories with my kids. Thanks.

I love the visual textures this time of year-how a leaf curls just before it falls softly to the ground, the ridges in a pumpkin. I also love the tactile texture of the air-you can feel it changing every day, getting colder and crisper and readying itself for winter.
Fun pics of the pumpkin innards.

The pumpkin guts might not be your favorite but the little one looked enthralled by it! LOL!
Keene, NH is the home of one of the best pumpkin festival ever! You can see some pretty amazing carvings there. Wish the website was more pretty but the experience is great!

The leaves in my part of the world (Oregon) haven't fallen to that extent as yet. We have gotten lazy and mow up all the leaves with the mower.

That is quite a yard full of leaves. It is fun to walk through them and listen to the crunching. My grandsons loved to jump into the piles when we raked ours. Enjoying all the stories you gals are writing.

Wow, what a beautiful yard! I love raking leaves, so I would be in heaven! I should take my foreign-born husband to a pumpkin patch this year. He's never experienced one before!

Pumpkin guts--yuck! I was really glad when my kids learned to do the pumpkins on their own. But it is a part of fall. Thanks.

Texture is one of the things I love about quilting - don't we all love to "pet" our fabric collection?
